VERGELDING OF BEZINNING?
Niet alle Amerikanen kopen momenteel wapens en gasmaskers
Het is hoopgevend dat je daar - in kranten, op tv maar
ook van individuele Amerikanen - ook andere geluiden hoort
dan alleen wapengekletter.

. Right now it's pretty scary.
People have so much fear in their eyes...
As I was walking to school today
(I park off-campus and walk in) I saw a local
business owner speaking with a cop.
She was reporting a "suspicious looking" man...describing him as a person of Arab descent. Terrible the ignorance and hate that fear can bring. Listening to reports of backlash against Arab-Americans in the US is one thing .... witnessing it on my way to school is something else indeed.
I pray for us all.
The overwhelming buzz in the air is that of war, revenge and retaliation. So many lives have been lost, so much death and pain. Let's pray that this won't turn into a world war.
From Bush's 'addresses to the nation' this seems to be what the country is gearing towards. It's so shocking....so surreal and horrible. The US has angered so many nations by our military actions & our involvement in the Middle East...not that it justifies what has occured...but perhaps it explains the hatred directed towards America.
I guess it just seems unfortunate that our government can't acknowledge the responsiblility of how our actions have affected other countries.
There are places in the world where people live in fear for their lives daily ... and in some of those places, the US is directly involved with that suffering. How can this government act as though we are so virtuous, that it is "good against evil", that we are innocents? So strange and hypocritical to me...
Talking about it at school...with classmates, professors, friends and family has helped me a lot. There are so many perspectives, so much emotion...
My mother has been working overtime at the blood bank...there are so many people donating their blood to help those in New York...it's so beautiful to see people coming together in the face of such madness. "
